Welcome to our team page! Teams have a huge impact on the success of Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk and we are glad you are here!
Why are we doing this?
The short answer is that we want to do something that helps kids, and can’t think of a better organization to support than Children’s Wisconsin.
The longer answer is that by running or walking in this event for Children’s, we can raise funds that support the care provided to kids, from life-saving cancer and heart treatments all the way to life-changing community care. Every day, Children’s is working to make Wisconsin kids the healthiest in the nation and my support and fundraising is critical to this work.
Community investment in Wisconsin’s kids has afforded many of Children’s amazing accomplishments and has helped to pave the way for an exciting future. Here is a snapshot of what community support has enabled:
~ Translational research that improves patient care and outcomes and continues to move toward cellular therapies that will eventually prevent disease
~ Countless programs and services that support families and are not reimbursed by Medicaid or other insurance
~ Sustained extraordinary care in our heart program, leading the country with a nationally ranked, outcomes-based program
Walking as a team at Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk sends out a huge shout of support to the kids cared for by Children’s, and raises critical funds to support their care. It’s also a lot of fun, with kid-focused activities and entertainment all the way!
If you didn't know my story, I spent some time in the Children's NICU shortly after being born. I am a perinatal stroke survivor. That's right, I had a stroke. A blood clot passed through the placenta and traveled to my brain. This is rare, 1 in 4,000 babies can go through this. Doctors call it very bad luck, but I’ve been kicking ass ever since! I had seizures and some damage, but my brain is working hard and I'm really strong today! I am seizure free and working hard to pass milestones. The NICU doctors and nurses, Neuro team, occupational and physical therapy team, and all the specialists I've met are truly amazing. My mom, dad, and I can't thank these incredible men and women enough for saving my life. I'm thriving because of all they have done for me!
That's why for my 1st birthday I want to raise money for Children's Hospital and raise awareness for perinatal stroke warriors! I want all babies and kids to have the amazing care I received while fighting their battles!
With love and strength,
