Welcome to Team Theo-dorable for Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk benefitting Children's Hospital of Wisconsin!
Theo first visited Children's when he was just 2 days old. He was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome at birth and was admitted to the NICU for testing, monitoring and starting medication. The NICU staff was AMAZING with Theo and they provided excellent care to him. As first time parents, we were very apprehensive throughout the process. They were very supportive to us and helped us get through a nerve racking first week with our new boy!
Theo regularly visits the Herma Heart Center to monitor and receive treatment for his Long QT Syndrome (LQTS). LQTS is a genetic heart condition that can cause arrhythmia, loss of consciousness, seizures or even sudden death. In 2015, Theo's aunt Rachel passed away unexpectedly from this condition. Prior to her passing, we were unaware that there was anything wrong. Due to LQTS being a genetic condition, much of the family was then tested for the condition. Many of Theo’s relatives have tested positive for the genetic mutation, including his dad, Dave. Thankfully, LQTS is a very treatable condition through heart medications and avoiding “trigger” medications that can elevate risk levels. We are so lucky to have Dr. Kovach and the fantastic staff at the Herma Heart Center caring for Theo!
Theo was also diagnosed with hydronephrosis at our 20 week ultrasound. Hydronephrosis is the swelling of a kidney due to a build-up of urine. It happens when urine cannot drain out from the kidney to the bladder due to a blockage or obstruction. Theo has been closely monitored by the Children’s Renal Clinic since our stay in the NICU. Due to their proactive treatment plan, Theo has not had any issues or concerns.
We hope you will join us in participating in this event as we do our part to give back to this wonderful organization. It would mean a lot to us if we see you out there!
