Hello! Thank you so much for coming to my Briggs & Al's Run & Walk page. This event and the mission it supports mean a lot to me and I am thrilled you took the time to stop by. Thank you.
My personal story begins nearly 30 years ago when I was a patient at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. My parents were seeking the best orthopedic care when I was diagnosed with Osteochondritis Dissecans in both knees. As an active child, the treatment options closer to home were limited to adult orthopedic specialists, and would likely have limited my growth and mobility. They took me to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, a 2 hour drive from home, for a third opinion. I am grateful they were able to access the specialty care I needed.
Now that I am a mother, I am grateful that the level of care that Children's Wisconsin provides is easily accessible for my family - a short drive to our Pediatrician's office and easy to access the hospital and specialty clinics that provide care for both of my children. For our daughter who was born with a venous malformation, Children's Wisconsin has an entire specialty program for Vascular Anomalies like hers, formed by multi-disciplinary pediatric specialists to treat children just like her. Our son has received care in specialty clinics, the emergency room, day surgery and a brief inpatient hospital stay. We have received exceptional care, and are forever grateful to the people who make this organization outstanding.
Please join me in helping support Children's Wisconsin!
Why am I doing this?
The short answer is that I want to do something that helps kids, and I can't think of a better organization to support than Children's Wisconsin.
The longer answer is that by running or walking in this event for Children's, I know I am raising funds that support the care provided to kids, from life-saving cancer and heart treatments all the way to life-changing community care. Every day, Children’s is working to make Wisconsin kids the healthiest in the nation and my support and fundraising is critical to this work.
Community investment in Wisconsin’s kids has afforded many of Children’s amazing accomplishments and has helped to pave the way for an exciting future. Here is a snapshot of what community support has enabled:
~ Translational research that improves patient care and outcomes and continues to move toward cellular therapies that will eventually prevent disease
~ Countless programs and services that support families and are not reimbursed by Medicaid or other insurance
~ Sustained extraordinary care in our heart program, leading the country with a nationally ranked, outcomes-based program
I can make a real difference for an organization making a real difference for kids. If you have it in your heart to help, please donate now.
Thank you!
