Supporting care outside our walls
Bids for Kids - Thursday, Nov. 5th
Bids for Kids is an annual dinner and raffle event with more than 250 guests raising money to benefit children and families served by Community Services at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Community Services works with local organizations, schools and neighborhood centers to reach and care for children where they are — in their community. Our programs are an investment in the whole child, in the family and in the community. Learn more.

Featured Champ: Pearce, Age 7
When Chris and Jennifer VanAsten learned that their son would be born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome, along with multiple other heart defects, they were devastated. They quickly learned that their son's greatest chance of survival would be at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Pearce was born with an under functioning right ventricle in his heart, double outlet right ventricle, mildly unbalanced AV canal, transposed great arteries, pulmonary atresia and dextrocardia. The surgeons went to work immediately to begin a three-surgery process to rebuild Pearce's heart—a first surgery at ten days old, a second when he was one year old and a third surgery at the age of five.
Pearce has a contagious smile that can light up any room. There were a few setbacks along the way; however, it is spending time with a physician's assistant eating pretzels and mustard that he remembers most. Regular cardiology appointments are part of Pearce's routine. A heart transplant could be part of his plan; however, for now Pearce loves school and is currently in the Gifted and Talented Program. He enjoys playing organized sports—basketball, soccer and baseball. Pearce also looks forward to family game nights and is a seven year old food aficionado. Watch our video about Pearce.
